Hawaii 2006: Oahu Day 1: The arrival
September 1st, 2006 by greg
We checked into our hotel, the Ohana East, with no issues. The room was very small with a view of roof and the wall of another hotel tower. It may have been small but it was clean and that is really all that we care about.
After getting situated we went for a walk. It was still the early afternoon because of the 6 hour time difference. We walked along Waikiki Beach and the shops along the beach. On the advice of my sister Donna we decided to eat dinner at Duke’s (or second dinner since we had eaten on the plane…sort of. Meals get confusing with such a large time difference). Duke’s is right on the beach on the lower level of a hotel tower. They had live music on the beach for the beginning of our meal.
We timed dinner to be at about 6pm Hawaii time. Since our normal bed time is between 10pm and 11pm we were a little tired but the sunlight really helps keep you awake. We finished dinner before the sun went down and continued our stroll for a short while.
Finally we ended up back at the hotel for a short nights sleep prior to our “breakfast briefing.” A breakfast briefing is a sales pitch from, in this case, Diamon Head Vacations that pushes you to buy tours and other outings from them. I wasn’t pleased with this sales pitch but you can read about that in the next post.
